    Wonderful. Thanks a million. I am a brand new SQL Server DBA after having been a DB2 z/OS DBA for years.
    FYI, I am using Vista 64 bit and had no problems.

    for those who got problems….
    in vista or window7
    just do this…..
    right click on the icon and select run as admin…
    that’s it…
    chao…..!!!

    nvm i fixed it i had to fully remove it and reinstalled

    Hmm, not sure. check all the sql services, accounts assigned to them, also check for remote connection under configuration manager.

    o and im running on windows vista i have gotten the sql to work before
    but i uninstalled it then re installed it

    Is the SQL Service running. You can check that under Services (Ctrl Panel). If so use . (period) or machine name to connect to it. Cheers

    Not sure what you mean. SQL server actually is a service that runs on a physical box. You will need to have a machine with the right OS on it b4 you can run SQL. Hope that helps.
